How to make Pompom door wreath?

Stick the cones

Step 1: Attach the twigs to the willow wreath using wire. Stick the cones in place using the glue gun. Add a touch of personality by making a couple of red and pink pompoms (see below)in different sizes and use the glue gun again to attach these to the wreath.

Pick slender pieces of moss

Step 2: Pick slender pieces of moss, wrap them round with wire and attach these little rolls to the wreath.

Finally, make two tassels

Step 3: Finally, make two tassels (see below) and hang them at different heights below the wreath.

Pompoms and Tassels

wrap the wool

Step 1: In both cases, first you wrap the wool around a small, strong piece of
card. We used a business card. It’s the ideal size.

Tie together the loops

Step 2: To produce a tassel, you tie together the loops on 1 side of the card. To create a pompom, you tie together the loops on both sides of the card.

Step 3: Slide the loops off the card. For the tassel (pink) you wrap a thread around all the loops just below where the ends are tied, bundling them together. This produces a little round “top knot”.

Knot together the thread ends

Step 4: For a pompom (red) you knot together the thread ends on both sides.

Cut the loops of wool

Step 5: Finally, for both the tassel and the pompom, you cut the loops of wool at the bottom and neatly trim the threads to the correct length.

Tip: When Christmas is over you can remove all the materials from the wreath, and either save them for next year, or redecorate the wreath at Easter.

A pompom door wreath is a fun and festive way to add some Christmas cheer to your home decor

It is a creative twist on the traditional holiday wreath and can be easily customized to match your personal style and color preferences.

To create a pompom door wreath, you will need a few basic supplies. These include a wire wreath frame, yarn in various colors, a pair of scissors, and a hot glue gun. You may also want to have some additional embellishments on hand, such as decorative ornaments, ribbons, or artificial pine branches.

To start, take the wire wreath frame and begin wrapping the yarn around it. This will serve as the base for your pompoms. You can use one color of yarn for a monochromatic look, or mix and match different shades for a more vibrant and playful wreath.

Once the wire frame is completely wrapped in yarn, it’s time to start making the pompoms. To make a pompom, cut a long piece of yarn and set it aside. Then, take another piece of yarn and begin wrapping it around your fingers or a small cardboard template. The more times you wrap the yarn, the fuller and larger your pompom will be.

Once you have wrapped the desired amount of yarn, carefully slide it off your fingers or template and tie the long piece of yarn you set aside earlier around the center of the yarn bundle. Make sure it’s tied tightly so that the pompom doesn’t fall apart. Then, use your scissors to cut through the loops on each end of the yarn bundle. Fluff up the pompom and give it a little trim, if necessary, to create a round and even shape.

Continue making pompoms until you have enough to cover the entire wreath frame. The number of pompoms you’ll need will depend on the size of your wreath and how closely you want to space them. It’s a good idea to create extras, as you can always find other uses for leftover pompoms or use them to replace any worn-out ones in the future.

Once you have all your pompoms prepared, you can start attaching them to the wire wreath frame. Use the hot glue gun to secure each pompom onto the frame. Start at one end and work your way around, making sure the pompoms are evenly distributed and tightly attached.

Once all the pompoms are attached, step back and assess your wreath. If desired, you can add some additional embellishments to further personalize it. For example, you can hot glue artificial pine branches around the wreath to give it a more traditional Christmas feel. You can also tie ribbons or attach small ornaments to the wreath for added visual interest.

Finally, hang your completed pompom wreath on your front door to welcome guests with a burst of holiday spirit. The soft and fluffy texture of the pompoms combined with their vibrant colors will surely make your home feel warm and inviting this Christmas season. Additionally, you can also hang the wreath indoors above a fireplace or on a wall to add a festive touch to any room.

To create a pompom door wreath for Christmas, you will need the following materials:

  • 1. Wreath base: A foam or wire wreath base will provide a sturdy structure for attaching the pompoms. These can be found at craft stores, online retailers, or even dollar stores.
  • 2. Pompoms: You can either purchase pre-made pompoms or make them yourself using yarn. If purchasing, craft stores, online retailers, or specialty craft websites would be good sources. If making them, you’ll need yarn in different colors of your choice.
  • 3. Hot glue gun and glue sticks: These are needed to attach the pompoms to the wreath base securely. They are available at craft stores or online.
  • 4. Scissors: You’ll need a pair of scissors for cutting the yarn while making pompoms or trimming any excess.
  • 5. Ribbon or twine: This is used to hang the wreath on the door. You can find various types of ribbon or twine at craft stores or online.
  • 6. Optional: Decorative elements like small ornaments, holiday-themed embellishments, or greenery can be added to enhance the wreath’s festive look.

You can easily source these materials from craft stores such as Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Joann Fabrics. They usually have a wide variety of wreath bases, pompoms, glue guns, and ribbons available. Additionally, online retailers like Amazon, Etsy, or eBay also offer a vast selection of these materials, making it convenient to browse and order from home.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to create a pom-pom door wreath from scratch:

  • Materials you’ll need:
    – A foam wreath base
    – Yarn in various colors
    – Scissors
    – Hot glue gun
    – Ribbon or twine for hanging
    – Decorative embellishments (optional)
  • Step 1: Prepare the wreath base
    – Start by smoothing out any rough edges on the foam wreath base.
    – Tie a piece of ribbon or twine around the wreath to create a hanging loop.
  • Step 2: Make the pom-poms
    – Choose the colors you want for your pom-poms. You can stick to a specific color scheme or go for a more randomized look.
    – Cut a piece of yarn, approximately 8 to 10 inches long, and set it aside for later use.
    – Take the end of the yarn and start wrapping it around your fingers (or a pom-pom maker tool) until you achieve your desired thickness. The more yarn you use, the fuller your pom-pom will be.
    – Carefully slide the yarn off your fingers (or pom-pom maker) and bring the tied piece of yarn through the center of the looped yarn.
    – Tie a tight double knot, securing the looped yarn. Make sure to leave the tie strings long, as you’ll use them to attach the pom-poms to the wreath later.
    – Take a sharp pair of scissors and cut through the loops on each side of the tied yarn, creating a fluffy pom-pom.
    – Trim any excess yarn to shape the pom-pom and make it even all around.
    – Continue making pom-poms until you have enough to cover your wreath base. The amount will depend on the size of your wreath and the desired density of pom-poms.
  • Step 3: Attach the pom-poms to the wreath base
    – Heat up your hot glue gun.
    – Apply a small amount of hot glue to the tied strings of a pom-pom.
    – Press the glued strings firmly to the foam wreath base, holding it in place for a few seconds until the glue dries.
    – Repeat this process, spacing out the pom-poms evenly around the wreath base, until the entire wreath is covered. Vary the colors and sizes of the pom-poms for a more visually appealing design.
    – If desired, you can add some larger embellishments like felt flowers or holiday-themed decorations to the wreath using hot glue. Be creative and personalize it to your liking.
  • Step 4: Finishing touches
    – Once all the pom-poms are secured, inspect the wreath for any loose or unevenly attached pom-poms. Reapply hot glue as needed to reinforce them.
    – Trim any stray yarn or excess glue for a neater appearance.
    – Allow the wreath to completely dry and cool down before hanging it on your door or desired location.

Your pompom door wreath is now ready to add a colorful and festive touch to your home decor! Enjoy your creation.
